Circle (2015) Film Thoughts... Put 50 random people in any room, there will be weirdness going on...put 50 random people into a death chamber, you will have chaos. That is what Circle is all about. One day, inexplicably 50 people appear in a large room with red circles on the floor arranged so that all of them are facing forward. One by one, they are zapped by a strange laser ray and killed. Soon, they figure out that they are actually “voting” for the next to go. Sure enough, this creates all sorts of problems as people prejudices, hate and personal philosophies come out...who will be the last to live (or will there be any survivors of the CIRCLE!)
Truly, there is not much to say about this one. It is very straight forward from the beginning...in pretty much real time, somebody dies every two minutes. There are many actors here and they all do very well with the constraints placed on them. It's a simple one location premise. The idea has been done a couple of times before but here it goes deep into our personal prejudices and fears of others. I did find it to be a little long, this would have made a great hour long tv show. At almost 1 hour and a half, it drags a bit. You really just want to know who will survive this. Personally, I would have ended this a bit different then the filmmakers did. This film did remind me a lot of 2013's The Human Race and that is a good thing. It's a solid horror/sci-fi film that will have you think. We are doomed, when the chips finally fall, it will be every man for himself.
