Pity first came to my undivided attention by way of Fear Haus, which I will say again, is an incredible way to see independent short horror films! If you haven't yet, please check out Blair Bathory's glorious brain child on YouTube! Back to Pity - It was one of the first episodes I had seen and it simply blew me away! For it being a 7 minute short about a guy sitting in his car going through the most agonizing inner turmoil, it's visual representation of such a scene was one that could be branded on your psyche! Writer/Director John Pata concocted with actor Jake Martin (whom by the way, at that point, had never really acted before), a brew of undeniable internal truths. Pata also worked with the likes of cinematographer Robert Patrick Stern, to create a visual language that completely walked the line between beauty and dark & brooding. As I mentioned, Jake Martin at that point had never acted before. He was in a rock band from Oshkosh, WI, and still is! But because of his capability to tap into raw emotions, I feel he was perfect and was made to play this role! Proof that it's not too difficult to find really talented people anywhere! Familiarize yourself with John Pata and his short film, Pity! It can be found as the fifth episode on Blair Bathory's hit web show, Fear Haus!
